More About This Law
Law Summary
During Holy Week, no horses or wheeled transport is allowed in the city.
Why does this law exist?
Holy Week was an important week of religious festivals in the 19th century that culminated in the burning of Judas' (even though most of the effigies were not in the likeness of Judas, rather of prominent Mexican leaders the people wished to poke fun at). Since the streets were packed with people participating in festivities during this week, a law was enacted to make sure no one attempted to barge through pedestrians with horses which might cause trouble.
